Cat Facts

The PurrBalls growing list of cat facts:

30 - Cats respond very well to vocal stimulus. The more you talk to your cat, the more it will "talk" back to you. They enjoy communicating with us and love the attention.

29 - A large majority of white cats with blue eyes are deaf. White cats with only one blue eye are deaf in the ear closest to that eye. They try to compensate by becoming extremelly sensitive to vibrations and visual clues.

28 - Amongst cats, staring is often a form of aggression. Ever wonder why cats are often attracted to people who don't like them? It's because the person is not looking at or paying attention to them, this person is deemed non-aggressive... Wink at your cat slowly if you do this - it is the same as communicating a kiss or an "I love you". Your cat will wink back and return the sentiment!

27 - Don't change your cat's feeding area around. They like a familiar out-of-the-way spot. Water should be available at all times, and freshened up often in clean bowls. Place the water far enough away from the food otherwise it will absorb the odours.

26 - If your child has a tendancy to hurt or be violent towards an animal, pay attention and take action, not only is it wrong but it could be a warning sign -- statistics show that animal abusers almost always graduate to violence towards humans.

25 - If your cat is straining to urinate or goes in the litter box for longer periods of time without soiling, take it as a warning sign of urinary problems. This needs immediate veterinary attention.

24 - Cats are very insightful - they solve problems by observing and by learning from their mistakes. Then they adapt their solutions to similar situations in the future.

23 - Cats have an extra organ to smell called the Jacobson's organ, located at the top of the mouth.

22 - The cat, camel and giraffe are the only three animals who walk by moving the two legs on one side together first, then shifting to the other side (in sync).

21 - catling = kitten
kindle/litter = group of kittens
clowder = group of cats
